About the Academy

The Young Artists Music Academy International Program (YAMA International Program) in collaboration with The Barstow School, occupies a prestigious place today in music education. This unique program was created specially for exceptionally gifted young pianists at an important and crucial moment of their development.

This program was conceived to offer the highest standard of instruction which includes technical skills and musicianship. The world-renowned faculty offers individual classes for each student according to their particular needs.

Eligibility

The YAMA International Program is open to gifted pianists of all nationalities, no younger than 13 years old at the date of the application deadline.

Important Dates

The Fall Semester lasts from August–December of any calendar year. The admission cycle for fall semester entrants begins in November of the previous year.

Phase I – Music

  • November 15: Audition application submission deadline
  • November 25: Candidates selected from audition application pool and notified of next steps
  • January 1–January 15 (of consecutive calendar year): Live Auditions window in China
  • February 15: Candidates selected from live auditions pool and notified of next steps; Selected applicants move onto Phase II of the application process.

 

Phase II — Academic

  • April 1: Academic application deadline for The Barstow School
  • May 1: Academic application decisions go out to candidates
  • May 15: Signed enrollment contract due
  • June 15: Annual tuition payment due

The Spring Semester lasts from January–May of any calendar year. The application cycle for this education period begins ~8-9 months in advance of education start date. Pertinent deadlines and information is below:

Phase I – Music

  • August 1–24: Live Auditions window during Lake Como Summer Piano School in Italy (available to Summer School Participants only)
  • September 1–10: Live Auditions window in Kansas City, USA
  • September 15: Candidates selected from live auditions pool and notified of next steps; Selected applicants move onto Phase II of the application process.

 

Phase II — Academic

  • November 1: Academic application deadline for The Barstow School
  • November 15: Academic application decisions go out to candidates
  • November 20: Signed enrollment contract due
  • December 1: Annual tuition payment due

About Barstow School Collaboration

A special collaboration between YAMA International and The Barstow School was designed to integrate Musical and Academic education for gifted young pianists.

YAMA International students will receive the course work necessary for them to graduate with a high school diploma from The Barstow School. This curriculum will include the core subject areas of English, Math, Science, Social Science, and English Language Learning courses where needed. In addition, music theory courses will be provided by the Hybrid Learning Consortium as needed and upon the advice of YAMA International. The Barstow School will adopt an individual everyday class schedule for music students in order to provide them with enough time for practicing.
